Dutch Genealogy News for October 2024

Here is an overview of the new sources, projects, and other news from the past month.

Sources

  • The De Hullu Collection at the Zeeuws Archief has been largely digitized. De. J. de Hullu made many scientific notes and transcripts, mainly regarding the history of the western part of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. His collection is of special importance since many original records from the area were lost in World War II.
  • Many Noord-Brabant death records 1971-1973 have been scanned and indexed and are now available at the Brabants Historisch Informatie Centrum website.
  • Birth records of Enkhuizen 1903-1911 are now available at the Westfries Archief.
  • The Twentsche Courant 1950-1961 has been digitized and added to Delpher. This was a regional newspaper for Twente, the eastern part of Overijssel.
  • The Papers of John Bowne (1627-1695) have been digitized. John Bowne was an English settler in Vlissingen (later Flushing), New Netherland. The collection includes correspondence with the West India Company.
  • Several transcriptions of church records from Goeree-Overflakkee can be found on the website Cor Koene Genealogie.
  • Several new sources for Sint Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles, such as criminal records 1805-1806 and records of enslavers 1862-1864  have been added to Archiefman.
  • The court records of the Brabant commissioners in Maastricht have been reorganized. The trial records have been indexed.
  • The CBG | Centre for Family History created a list of all the marriages in the Wolters collection. These are marriages where the groom was in the military between 1648 and 1811. Wolters collected these marriages by going through the marriage records of garrison towns. The list is useful to trace military ancestors who lived in different garrisons.

Websites

  • The website Ons Land [Our Country] was launched to give background information about the shared history of the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies/Indonesia.
  • The Groninger Archieven has a new website. It seems that the changes are mainly cosmetic; the underlying content seems to be the same. Their genealogical website Alle Groningers also underwent a facelift.
  • Collectie Overijssel added a series of guides for research in Overijssel to their website. The guides are in Dutch, but you can use a browser like Chrome to have the content translated.

Projects

  • The Utrechts Archief is looking for volunteers to verify automatically indexed death records 1971-1973. Volunteers can report to Het Volk.
  • The records of the Delta Archives 1944-1976 are being digitized. The Delta Works was a large infrastructure project to protect the Netherlands from flooding. [Source: Zeeuws Archief]
