A register van naamsaanneming is a register of name taking. In 1811/1825, people that did not have a last name yet, like people from the northern provinces or Jews, had to register their new name.

    Hi Yvette,

I came across your website and in particular the page https://www.dutchgenealogy.nl/register-van-naamsaanneming/. May I respectfully suggest a slight change of wording on that page as follows:

A register van naamsaanneming is a register of adoption of surnames (literally register of name taking). In 1811/1825, people that did not have a surname, in particular those from the northern provinces or who were Jewish, had to adopt and register a surname.

    • Your sentence is longer and far more complex than my style of writing. I try to make it website accessible to a wide range of readers. This includes people who shows English as a second language, or people with learning disabilities. I try to keep my sentences sport and easy to understand.
